Since security is still somewhat of a new field, it seems that there is not a consensus when it comes to naming convention for job roles, titles, and team names. When it comes to the naming convention you follow for your departments, teams, white papers, mission statements, roles, degrees, and resumes; what verbiage do you tend to use the most?

I feel that in the past and when talking to non-security people I used "cybersecurity" the most, but today I tend to fall in the "security" camp.

Cybersecurity on dating apps only just to differentiate yourself from bouncers, otherwise just say security on your resume ffs.

It’s all Cybersecurity now. It was historically information security because the entire focus of the industry was protecting information. Now it’s expanded to all digital systems including those that operate physical things, i.e. cyber. Just “security” implies physical security such as a security guard. For some reason engineers / developers insist on simply using the term “security” but in my opinion the term is out dated and does not accurately describe the work.

      OP
This is a big reason I wonder about terminology. For those outside the tech community, security is sometimes confused with physical security.

If people ask, I say security and let them assume that I'm a security guard. I find it amusing to observe whether they see/treat me any differently and whether their tone adjust accordingly when I eventually reveal that I'm in tech. Helps me cull out the shitty people
