Hey all! I'm C++ SWE working for bank in NYC, originally from London. I'm hoping to get h1b this year. Generally how hard is it to move on h1b? Do firms give less comp than to permanent residents?
Thanks

Difficulty arises from the sheer pain that comes with dealing with it. Forget about startups, small shops etc. They will scream and run away the moment you utter the words "I will need visa sponsorship". You will be interviewing exclusively with large enterprises.
And transferring across is also a nightmare. Like you will be waiting 2 months minimum after signing an offer letter before you can figure out your start date.
Oh and that is if you have one at hand. Getting your initial one is subject to lottery. Fun!
