Hey Blind Community, I’m at Deloitte and I’ve been working as close to PM as someone at Deloitte can, but of course I don’t have the tittle. Been prepping my product sense/design/execution/analytical skills for about 2 months now and have finished a handful of mocks too. Just started applying and not getting call backs.

Would any current PMs at tech companies be willing to give a quick glance to critique my resume? Please let me know and I’ll DM you. I really appreciate it!

Any other tips in transitioning will also go a long way.

Thank you!

True - Definitely willing to put in all the hard work nights and weekends to make it happen. I just need some guidance along the way.

PM me, I’m happy to help anyone as best I can. I accepted a TPM role in the data & AI group at a leading video game company. Surprisingly they paid the most but it was probably driven by counteroffers. PM groups vary widely from company to company. Happy to share my experience and study tips to anyone :) I know it can be a major grind.

Geniunely curious, why do you want to get into product management? What makes you think you'll love it?

Have you read any of Tim Herbig's stuff? This will help you know what you're getting into.

Also, PM is not glamourous. To do it well, you often get all the blame and not much credit. The pay is good if you can negotiate or have multiple offers.

Lastly, Product mgmt can be very different from one company to the next. Are you familiar with feature factory teams, as opposed to empowered product teams (concept from Marty Cagan)?

No, I haven’t come across this yet. Thanks for the reading material, I’ll definitely take a look!

Yep, totally get the not glamorous piece. I’m not looking for anything glamorous really. Consulting is a dead end, without any opportunity to go deep and build specialty. I mean it’s possible, but way too dependent on external non-controllable factors.
