Will FB proceed to onsite if you don't get the optimal solution on one of phone interview questions?

Gave naive solution, couldn't finish the optimal solution.

Yeah. This happened to me. Even though I solved 2 problems and wrote working code , the interviewer was nitpicking on some conditions. Seems like he had probably decided even before the interview that he would pass on.

    Depends. Here's my experience:

Phone interview 1: coded a good solution and explained the optimal solution. They asked me for a second phone interview because my coding was not up to snuff.

Phone interview 2: coded an optimal solution for first problem. Coded a naive solution and explained the optimal for the second problem.

    Rejected.

All phone interviews are flaky to some extent. The expectwdoutcome of the problem.isnt always explicitly mentioned. Do they want perfect working code? Tests?

FB interviews are flakier than average I think.

Depends on the interviewer as always.

  • It really depends on interviewer but it sounds like onsite invite is unlikely to happen.

    • So usually if you
solved with brute force only: likely reject
same as above but explained about correct optimal solution: second chance phone interview

    • Don’t be disappointed in any case.
Interview is pretty random. You could solve a problem easily depending on how the interviewer stewards you. You could screw up an easy question you already know if interviewer confuses you. I found interviewers make the interview go well or bad than myself doing better.

Was it just one question? Or you couldn't optimize the second one?
