Hoping some folks here have had to make this decision before and can give some advice.
Currently, I’m a senior data scientist with a split focus on data eng and ML (Python). At smaller companies being a “full stack” DS has been fine if not desirable. I’d like to become more focused. If I stay at reddit, I’ll need to become more specialized to progress. If I leave, I’d like to go to a larger company. Larger companies seem to have more specialized roles. I’m feeling a bit stuck or lost when I look at job descriptions.
I’m not even sure what I’d be considered outside of reddit and I’m struggling to figure out where to invest my time for interview practice.
I’m fine with medium leetcode problems, no trouble with sql questions, but I’m not great with some ML questions and definitely not prepared for traditional analytics questions. In particular, experimentation or stats because that is not my area of focus at work and I’m not super interested in it.
How do I decide where to focus?
