Why the hell someone on this earth 🌍 go to Amazon from Google.
Why not try other comparable companies like Facebook Apple Netflix or unicorns stripe square ...

Yeah. It’s not easy to find a team with work life balance in Amazon and almost every team will have quota to kick out 6-7% of the workforce every year and your manager decides who is going to be kicked out.

I just negotiated an l6 offer with Amazon.

515 first year, 508 second, 503 third and 551 fourth.

This is assuming the predicted stock growth.

You just need to negotiate stock and cash grants to balance each other out.

Anyone doing this should be able to write a small spreadsheet to do the math.

Seems pretty high for L6 SDM. Is it for a AS/RS role or for their manager?

I received a similar offer, but did not join. At that time hiring manager told me that they are assuming 15% stock growth and I will be compensated for the difference if stock does not grow by that amount. He also that it usually does not happen since stock has been growing more than 15% in past years

OP I worked at Amazon, but not at G. I can verify most horrible things you see on Blind about Amazon is true (e.g. high percentage of awful managers, frugality in every aspect, etc.). So if the team is good, go for it. Do a deep check on the team and the management chain. It won't be worth it if the team has one of those terrible managers.

I’m an L7 SDM and can confirm that although not common, the offer is real. I personally have hired an L6 on my team that came in at a bit higher. With approval, there’s technically no bands or TC limit.

At OP, you obviously did very well in the interviews (you probably know that already), I’d say take the offer it’s a great one and stock will 100% continue to go up for the next 4 years. My stocks have appreciated so much there’s literally no company that can come close to my TC.

And don’t listen too much to Blind about the teams. I’ve been here for a very long time and there’s plenty of good teams as there are bad ones. Out of the 6 teams I worked on, only 1 of them was bad where I was working 50-60 hours/week. The other teams plus my current one, averaged at about 40-45 hours per week. And from your background/interview performance, I’d hedge my money that not only will you be fine but you’ll excel.

This seems like a response from HR. Don’t take it, do your research, Your offer is really good but weigh it with Amazon culture that is getting shitier day by day, particularly if you are on AWS or Alexa side. Quality of people is also getting seriously worse every day. Day 1 culture exists in a handful of teams now. Most AWS SDEs are nothing more than ops engineers now. So seriously evaluate if you wanna give your life for good money with a shit load of ops work and a glorified ops career

No you just sound like someone who’s salty, jealous, and probably getting paid way less than OP. I would be a liar if I personally have had a positive experience for the most part but would preach otherwise. Obviously you’ve had more negative experiences than me but its obvious you’re on the junior side. It’s not black and white, there are always 2 sides to each coin.
