I've got offers from both. No final numbers yet.

Waymo
- I don't see any IPO in sight
- Stock is private
+ You keep the vested stock forever after you leave
+ Smaller
- Worse work-life-balance
+ Lets me in to the autonomous vehicle space

Google
+ Stable with good wlb
- Not as impressive on resume as it used to be
- You become one of the masses

Share level and offer if you want feedback. Waymo is stingy with offers, but with negotiation can pay as well as G depending on how you value the equity. Base, bonus and sign on will be as good as G. Equity can be 600K or higher at 409a valuation for L5.

100K Meta/G RSU sounds better than 80K WMU today, but Waymo has serious goals for 2022. Things will change if those goals are met.

WMUs are not options. I don't know what you're talking about.

Waymo in previous years had one concrete goal, launching in Chandler. For 2022 we have a several large milestones. They are relatively important now with external investors.

Waymo pays 💩, even worse than google. I canceled my on-site after hearing the numbers. Plenty of autonomous vehicle startups out there that pay more and going public sooner.

Nuro, Argo AI, Cruise for example. Argo’s initial offer was 318/y and Waymo told me almost 100k below that for L4.

I don’t really care to work for AV so I haven’t done much research. All my other offers were 320-400

I thought they paid the same across all bets. Given the fact that they’ve not even IPO’d makes it even more lucrative, but I wouldn’t take it if it involves a big enough pay cut.

Yes and no. The stock is worthless rn which results in a dip in QoL for most people. If you’re already rich like a lot of the senior leaders appear to be at Waymo then you’ll be just fine.

One thing worth noting is that the risk is higher at Waymo, so your comp should be reflecting it. But it doesn’t, which is bullshit.

“You keep the vested stock forever after you leave”

This is misleading and bordering on completely false. I define “keeping” a stock as something you entirely control. When you leave Waymo you relinquish your control of the sell side to alphabet who is incentivized to buy it back at a discounted rate dictated by the 409A which they influence.

Don’t come to Waymo for the money. Seriously, the pay is bad in comparison to google or broader tech. Shills on here will tell you otherwise and our recruiters lie. Be careful.

    Work and WLB are great.

WLB at Waymo depends on team. Pay is absolutely terrible compared to G. But the feeling of working on what is undeniably the future helps a little.
