I cleared my onsite for Amazon in Arlington a few weeks ago and I’m currently in the team matching process. I’ve talked to a few managers and have narrowed down to two teams.
Alexa: news and privacy on the Alexa mobile app. Most of the development will be in react native. My experience is full stack web development and I’m not particularly interested in mobile development, but I’m not completely opposed to it either. Team is established and I will be the last member to join. The manager did my interview, and I know someone on her other team who said she’s a good manager.
AWS: S3 user security. Brand new team, new intent, mature product. Manager will be an external hire starting soon. From what I’ve heard it would be mostly backend work. I understand the WLB is gonna be shit, but the work seems more interesting to me. I understand it will be more challenging (pro: growth opportunity; con: PIP) than Alexa.
I will be joining as SDE1 so I’d definitely like to get promoted sooner rather than later, so that’s another consideration. Outside of work, I do grad school (1 class/semester), and don’t have kids.
TC 🍌 YOE 1-1.5 (ish)
edit: would really appreciate any input in comments as well! :)
