What will China do to retaliate the TikTok Tencent ban?

iPhone delays? iPhone bans? I have a not very reliable source in China saying Accenture China is freaking out over the ban, thinking they will lose their jobs. Chinese government has been known to retaliate rather specifically. If dancing teenager user data counts as National Security, pretty sure China can count any American firm’s business in china as security concerns. What’s your prediction?

No Hollywood 🎥

I was thinking exactly that!

Hollywood movies are already banned in China. Every year very limited number of American movies can be released in China. China also heavily censors that's critical of CCP or china. That's why you might notice lot of Hollywood movies include some Chinese character projected in a positive manner even though it's completely unrelated to the main plot. Moreover, china has banned American companies for years. Chinese are getting a taste of their own medicine. Though, I feel trump administration is treating china with kid's glove. Was expecting more punitive actions on china after wuhan virus. Looks like trump wants to protect his business interests on china. So, he's very lenient on china

😂😂😂😂 Banning tiktok and wechat is only step one of US retaliation against China for blocking hundreds of apps and services. China has no bargaining power that won't result in more retaliation from the US 🤣🤣🤣

U know ur phone is made in china?

Financial Services Company brianz OP Aug 7, 2020

I mean, the trade war was fought with the same mentality, thinking China would lose out more. Not sure that played out in our favor.

Ban Google and Facebook in China

Financial Services Company brianz OP Aug 7, 2020

From what I heard Facebook still has a big presence in China in advertising

Indeed salsaranch Aug 7, 2020

Nope, FB doesn't have any meaningful presence. Probably less than 1% of their revenue comes from China. Same with Google.

Apple iAvY42 Aug 7, 2020

Ban KFC and McDonalds. Those American junk food makes people fat and stupid which is a real security concern

Financial Services Company brianz OP Aug 7, 2020

But then they’ll ban Panda Express here... and I like Panda Express...

Apple iAvY42 Aug 7, 2020

😂 the banning game will never end then

Amazon De$i Aug 7, 2020

Will ban Instagram? Oh, wait...

Wells Fargo imp523 Aug 7, 2020

What is Instagram? Sorry, I am from China, I have never heard of it

Amazon De$i Aug 7, 2020

Oh, it’s an American clone of Weibo with pictures.

Microsoft horizontal Aug 7, 2020

China has already banned whatever they could. China has more to lose in any retaliation game. They would probably do some small scale retaliation to save face.

LinkedIn meowrawr Aug 11, 2020

Idk I think there’s more American tech in China than chinese tech in America. I think America has more to loose than China in a tech trade war

Microsoft horizontal Aug 11, 2020

What major American tech is bringing revenue from China. Other than Apple I cant think of much. On the other hand entire consumer goods from electronics to clothing to every day to day goods in USA are from china and china relies on that revenue. Granted american buyers will pay more for these goods if chinese products are banned, but clearly china will hurt more

Wells Fargo imp523 Aug 7, 2020

Why Americans think China is retaliating about the ban when China has banned almost all western apps in China? Shouldn't US government do something? China is the one started it from years ago, and US administration did nothing about it!

Apple magikarp19 Aug 7, 2020

I don’t think it matters. They have had a really good time under Trump with America’s world influence and global respect waning that allows them to extend their domination around the world. TiKTok ban means nothing. If they act, it would just be to distract and hide their joy at seeing Trump convince his base of how effective he has been.

China won’t back down and continue to threaten us natural resource and political interest in Africa. The number of growing foreign military installations there is mind boggling.

Roku 7463847 Aug 7, 2020

China is already retaliating by striking diplomatic deals with more and more countries while we throw our tantrum. Soon China can get oil from Iran and Russia directly, without using the dollar. And soon enough the rest of Middle East will follow suite. So while China is attacking our dollar we’re throwing fits.

Netflix razorlab Aug 7, 2020

They got pipe line projects running all over Africa. Of all the place China operates a foreign military base, it’s out of Africa. Only way out of this one is militarily. I don’t think we’ll ever fight them in a direct conflict but something like the Korea war happen. Say the battle for Taiwan. It’s will be deadly but at least it’ll remain conventional and not nuclear. But for sure, we’ll see a draft happen here.

Reddit LPNF86 Aug 7, 2020

So they got Russia, Iran and part of Africa. Seems like a losing combo to me
