I just got an initial verbal offer from Riot. They told me that they need some extra time to finalize the offer. Anything I should watch out?

One thing to flag is that they mentioned that given I came from non gaming background, they will offer me an associate development manager role instead of product leadership role I thought I was interviewing for.

  • We have a habit of putting over qualified people into associate roles and having them rage quit after 6 months because the scope sucks. If you are qualified for a leadership position but aren't being given one then I would decline the offer.

    I made the mistake of accepting in a similar situation and it took me 3 years to get back up to the TC and responsibility set I had at my previous role despite being more qualified than my manager.

      I agree with the original post in this thread...I was in a role too junior for my value/experience and was finding it difficult to get upward traction even though I’d been doing Director-level work for most of my experience there. Had to leave to capture the value of my experience, which was a bummer bc I did enjoy working there quite a bit.

    @the riot employees saying bad things about riot. why do you all work at riot? i thought the tc was so low that it is only worth it if you REALLY love the company.

      Google is like 320-350 at the lowest for seniors, but senior is anything from 5 yoe to 10+, so its a wide band. Ah, maybe I'm mistaken with numbers from another game company. I thought riot SWE L3 equivalent was something like 112K. Would you happen to know the actual numbers?

  • Decline. Development Managers are a hot mess. 75% of them can barely handle the project management because they're too busy ideating about work systems. Associate DMs are not even salaried last I checked. Riot has some of the best people I've worked with in my career in art, design, engineering, but production and in particular the DM side of it needs a lot of work.
