Interviewing with multiple companies and they all require a take home coding challenge. Theres take soo long.. I wish there was just one standard test we could take. Also during interviews there are a lot of “tell a time when questions”… I wish i was briefed before the interview on those. Im just mad because I went into an interview that i was excited for and was supper awkwardly unprepared for those questions. Rant over sorry..

You're not annoyed at the interview process. You're annoyed at yourself for being unprepared for basic behavioral questions and being unable to do the take homes as easily and quickly as you'd like to. You're annoyed at what you see in the mirror in front of you.

You should always be prepared for “tell a time when”… at its core that’s what an interview is. Your chance to explain your experience and why it makes you a strong candidate

  • Those “tell me about yourself” questions are questions you can prepare way in advance and you know you can ace the interviews if you do. That’s an advantage for you so why are you annoyed?!

  • Take home coding is a garbage way to interview, they just filters by those with more time to spend on them. But behavioral questions make sense, that's on you for not prepping. Keep it up.

    • I would argue it's a superior way to interview. It's more similar to the day to day problems you'll experience and they get to see your coding style. Solving puzzles on the spot is a garbage way to interview. It does nothing to tell you of skills other than memorization of LC problems

    • If that's the objective then ask practical/relevant questions that can be answered within the allotted time in an interview (mimic working conditions) . Take home test give the unemployed/undergrads an advantage that working professionals wont have. You wouldn't be filtering out unqualified but those with time constraints.
