Hey Blind,

I have a full time job in Expedia 🚀 which I started 3 months ago. Now my friend has this cool new NFT analytics app that he has asked me to work on. It’s well paid (think it’s self funded for now) and I’m only committing to doing 5 hours a week - thats my Sunday afternoon basically - and maybe up to 10 h/week if I do some weeknights too.

In terms of time commitment I feel able to give up this amount of time, as my FT job is pretty chill. Finish around 5.30/6 every day.

The money is good, the industry, crypto/NFT, is cool - even though I have never purchased an NFT myself - and the stack is awesome. All cutting edge tech that I have never used before.

I’ll be working as full stack in this PT gig. My FT job at Expedia is DevOps and while it’s ok, I don’t love it. So I’m super excited to have a side hustle in my real love, full stack dev.

Is this ok to do at the same time as a full time gig? Would my FT mind that I’m doing this?

TC: ~£55k (+ this PT worth £13-£26k - 25-50% increase - depending on hours and how long I keep it up)

Your FT job wouldn't know and as long as you didn't sign a weird non-compete agreement then you are fine legally

You shouldn't use a work laptop to do anything other than work. I am not a lawyer, but I am pretty sure that anything you do on that laptop is theirs. But I have done it in the past while doing contract work.

I don't think any of that other stuff matters.

      OP
      Found this in my contract:

“During your employment, you may not (without the prior written consent of the Company) directly or indirectly:

      - engage in; or
      - be concerned with; or
      - provide services to, (whether as an employee, officer, director, agent, partner, consultant or otherwise); or
      - have any financial or other interest in; or
      - accept any other engagement or appointment

in any other business activity (whether or not competitive with the business of the Company or any Group Company) or other non-business activity, or public office.”

      Which kind of sucks.

So definitely no LinkedIn and telling colleagues

Look into a moonlighting agreement with your company. Part of that agreement is you don’t use any work equipment, knowledge, or resources and you keep it separate otherwise, they can claim ownership of your work.
