I just moved to Seattle for the first time and my new employer has hooked me up with temporary housing for 45 days. It turns out that the apartment I’m staying at sits right on the southern edge of the Microsoft campus.

I want to do a bit of exploring today. Is there anything interesting or cool to see there? Or would I need an employee badge to wander around?

  • Former employee here - you can walk around the trails and through the area where commons is (the social center of campus) - that said, you’ll need a badge for most stuff (unless you tailgate), there’s nothing much to do besides building 92 - which has the museum and company store

  • The employee badge is needed to get into buildings. But you can do a lot of wandering around outside without needing a badge. It’s not gated or anything. You can walk around outside and admire the scenery if you like. I sometimes walk around outdoors there and don’t even bring my badge.

  • Depends on your definition of interesting and cool 😎.

Also do you have a car or want to explore walking?

I have a car! Once I’m there though I’d plan to just wander around on foot

    • Inside Microsoft campus area, you can explore Commons and Microsoft Store. Entry will require access card.

Outside, there are many good trails.. try Marymoor park and lake Samamish to start exploring. Little farther, you can go for lake Washington.
