Recently got a reject from the interviews, just an odd behavior from the interviewers..

1. One of the debugging round, the interviewer was constantly texting on the phone and wouldn’t talk more than yes/no/maybe

2. The other coding round interviewer was messaging the team members and wouldn’t care to explain the problem and just kept saying.. read the description. No answers to clarifying questions

Interviewed at other places.. didn’t see such behavior.
I understand everyone is hiring and there’s a shortage on people interviewing given how people are switching.

Is this common at Stripe? I think they have a standard question bank for interviews and end up asking same questions to everyone.

Also, anyone want to talk about internal engineering culture? And the PIP close to the stock vest…

Someone I interviewed recently got rejected. I did have to respond to a text during the debugging round, but I didn’t do the yes/no/maybe thing. I participated!

Geez, now I feel bad. :(

Each interview has a rubric consisting of multiple line items. A candidate is graded 1-4 (4 being best) in each line item. Ratings are backed up by written feedback. Some interviewers write a fair bit of feedback and/or attach their raw notes; others’ feedback is sparse. Either way, we hold a meeting after the panel has concluded, and reconcile feedback in order to come up with a decision: yes/no/need more signal.

This isn’t normal. We’re trained to engage more in virtual zoom interviews. Definitely let the recruiter know.

It happens, different reasons. Maybe interviewer is lazy, maybe the recruiter shafted them and scheduled an interview while they were oncall, maybe an incident where they are needed, or they are just an asshole. I experienced it Google as well but I know its not the norm. You should always tell the recruiter otherwise no one will know, even the person who did it may not be aware
