Facebook killing React - sad decision

Once upon a time SCO Linux was awesome, the company was great and embraced by community.
Then Darl McBride decided suing people is easier than innovation. It did not work, they went bankrupt, but only after years of litigation and damage done to the same community who helped them become relevant in the first place.
Now we have Facebook going rogue. Built using open source technologies, helped by students to crush MySpace - and here we go again, lawyers started to make decisions.
Will this Patent file the be the start of their downfall? Or Zuckerberg will be smarter than Darl McBride and pull the plug?
Sad to see Facebook becoming Oracle. I don't think it's a long term strategy to bite the hand that feeds you.
If you're a startup, you should not use React (reflecting on the BSD + patents license)

Not sure how much of this is FUD, how much is a real concern, but I don't blame people for not blindly trusting FB
If you're using React you're giving away your patents to Facebook to use them for free as they wish. It's legal speak, not FUD.
If you sue Facebook for any reason, even if you're right, you have to stop using React and rewrite the code that relies on it.
