There is a well wore path for getting from 150k TC --> 450k TC, but beyond that things are less clear cut. For folks with >700k TC what has your career looked like? - YOE? - BS, MS, PhD? - IC, PM, EM? - Start up, faang, other? - Advice?
I think you can make this much money by conventionally growing in the tech company. Like GM GPM GEM etc, but I totally believe if you want to make more than 1M annually you need to have side hustle
Get to M2 (management path) or E7 (ic path) in faang.
Rubbed a lamp and a genie popped out
and all u could ask for is 700k?
What is the path to go from 150K to 450k? I’m at 230k now and would love to know what path to follow
Move to bay area, LC, interview at all the FAANG, get multiple offers. Repeat every 1-3 years until at 400-500k TC.
Serious question- wouldn’t job hopping make it harder for you to rise to the ranks of a single company to the point where you are a director level or VP?
Might be tough at FANG as an IC without stock appreciation. Most people cap out at E5/E6, and you would need to be E7. Might be more feasible in the management track. Would be way easier at places like HRT/Jane Street/Two Sigma
Get to the director level at big tech and Senior VP elsewhere. No real secret. It will be much easier on the management track but an MBA would be helpful.
Providing pleasure service ;)
Same way you get 450k. You level up.
Being at the right startup at the right time. A bit of luck is definitely involved. Or leveling a LOT up. Think Mario mushroom that makes him 10000x size.
