“I would be interested in having engineering team hackathon offsites in cool locations with luxurious amenities.” Y/N
My brown ass having gone full remote at the beginning of COVID, I look out my office window on my 20 acres in Montana watching the bald eagles hunt squirrels in my front hayfield as the snow falls, I have often thought how great this environment is for my productivity and creativity. My productivity as measured by amount of money I have made the company is up 31% and number of patent filings is up 50%.
(Yes, I am high enough up as an IC that I can directly measure my impact on the company bottom line. +$92M last year. At my TC 680k Apple is getting a great deal.)
Both the nature immersion and wildly different culture/people than Cupertino give me a much more diverse perspective and ideas from when I owned a tiny box of a house next to 1000 other techies.
Instead of being friends with 20 other techies, I count among my friends a nurse, snowmobile mechanic, lumberjack, horse rancher, knife maker, and custom gunsmith.
With this in mind, I am thinking about setting up some luxury resort style offsite facilities in cool locations with fiber internet to gather remote/distributed teams AND FAMILIES for 2-3 weeks to do the best engineering of their lives while eating gourmet food and doing fun outdoor activities.
Some ideas:
Montana ranch: hiking, horseback riding, disc golf, shooting range
Florida seaside: surf lessons, deep sea fishing, spearfishing, shooting range
Texas hill country: dirt biking, ATVs, mountain biking, hog hunting, paintball, shooting range (sensing a theme here)
Alaska: skiing, fly fishing, camping, hiking
Of course most companies are creepy and weird about “no gun related events” but we can get around that easily by simply saying the gun related parts are optional, but even without evilllll gunnnz that trigger the weirdos the idea still stands.
Thoughts?

Mixing up professional and personal life is the worst idea
Also, simply put. I'd rather just go on a Montana vacation not have a weird pseudo work agreement.
You’ll need to think through this a bit more.
