Atlassian India to US/Sydney internal transfer opportunity

Oct 20, 2020 24 Comments

Is it possible to transfer from india to US or Sydney locations from Atlassian India (bangalore campus).
I'm planning to switch next year, preferably to those companies where US transfer is easy.
Are there any other companies other than Google, Microsoft, Amazon which provide easy internal transfer after 1 or 2 years?

  • For you to take an internal transfer to Sydney, you have to p5 atleast and for US p6, so it won't be possible anytime soon for you. But I really don't understand why everyone in india want to live abroad, I just don't get the desparation

    • Yes, my major reason is to explore and travel various places before settling down in india in 30s. So if we look at currency wise purchasing power, it makes more sense to shift to US or Europe for a while and travel a bit.

I agree with the poster here who said if your sole purpose for working is to save money then India is a good place to be. But if you want to have a good quality of life, good schooling (not rote learning), low pollution, good public transport, safe environment for raising a family, job opportunities for children across careers (not just engineering), social safety nets etc etc etc then you know you can’t get all of these in India.

Yes. I have seen people opting for Sydney at the interview stage itself. I often see internal job postings where people can apply and move.

  • Nothing to do with P5 or P6. Find a job, contact hiring manager and apply. There is some eligibility in terms of time spent in the hiring location. But nothing else. If your manager blocks your move, tell them to shove it. These rules are documented in internal mobility pages.

Moving to Sydney from BLR isn't worth it though, if you are looking to save money. And Atlassian doesn't pay well in US.

When did it change to P6? Or is that specific to Bengaluru to US?
