Do you really need a lawyer if you're not guilty

Feb 1 10 Comments

I know they say never try to represent yourself, always hire a lawyer. But if you're accused of a crime, and without a doubt you didn't do it.
How can opposing lawyers prove you guilty if you don't hire a lawyer of your own, unless they're fabricating evidence?

If without a doubt you’re not guilty, then it’ll never get to trial. If there’s something questionable to the point you might go to trial, get a lawyer.

  • Police are legally allowed to lie during investigations. Without a lawyer to keep you levelheaded and as a filter for questioning, you will likely make a mistake that may end up getting you nailed for something. All they really need to do is convince the jury, not have perfect evidence and documentation. A lot of innocent people have received the death penalty. Basically every lawyer hires representation in criminal cases for a reason.

Get a lawyer. There are plenty of stories out there that prossecution will try to coerce you to say what they want you to say. Once you say it, then you're legally guilty.

Lookup a video called "don't talk to the police"

  • Remember, they don't have to prove you did it to get a conviction. They just have to convince a judge or jury that you "probably" did it. This is why people can get wrongly convicted, with lawyer or without. Think about how guilty people get convicted when there's no video or 100% conclusive evidence... same principle.

Also you should always get a lawyer not just for the actual trial that you see on TV, but a lawsuit also includes a bajillion forms and procedures that you probably don't have the time to prepare or don't know how to do it well.
