Hey Blind Community! Recently circled back on a Google offer as I was nearing my 1 year mark, just to see what’s what. Ended up matching with 2 teams that are both interested in having me join. Loved the vibes I got from both sets of folks I talked to (1 manager and 1 IC from each). And was surprisingly interested in the Ads project though it’s not normally my thing. While the assistant project leans a bit more creative and I’m more initially excited about it. Really curious about #WLB & #culture w/in the *Assistant Team* vs *Ads Team* as a - Interaction Designer - but also overall (does me no good if I’m living healthy and my xfn team is taxed to the max). Open to input from IXD’s and non-designers alike. For context - I’d be: L5 / #InteractionDesigner The work is: Team 1 - #Ads Special project; not directly ads related but is an approved and funded project for an accomplished IXD manager in the Ads org. Building 0-1 and dealing with helping small biz navigate regulation. “Start-up” like team. Said “small and scrappy a lot”. Mentioned ability to roll off the team if it’s depri’d. But no insight into what that timeline could look like since it’s brand new and just finished a successful alpha. Team 2 - #Assistant More strategy and vision oriented for the next iteration of assistant #UX. Think mental models and multi-modal. Heard the tech is in dire straights though and the org has recently committed to improving it. Current TC: 336k YOE: 6
Ads wlb is generally great however ads special projects are a new initiative so things might look different there. Changing teams in Google is generally easy (after a year) so I will say go with whatever feels more compelling to you.
