We all know the true reason behind this is to protect the interests of certain entities (govts/corps), whatever official explanation that was given is else just a facade. They went even further to enforce this censorship by specifically disabling these metrics from their data API from Dec 13, just to deter any alternative workarounds eg extensions.

What some of us are genuinely interested to know is what’s going on behind the scenes, esp with regards to considerations, rationale, discussions being made revolving this decision (if any), or what is being told to the employees. Appreciate if those who are familiar/closely working with this area within the company could provide some insight on whatever is going on internally.

It must be reassuring to think everything's a conspiracy designed to dupe you, but you're so smart you can see through it. πŸ˜„πŸ™„

Agree wholeheartedly - it’s much easier to spread misinformation without the dislike button.

Isn't it ironic that this wasn't a consideration when all they do these days is try to censor "misinformation"?

I don't understand this decision. It's harder for me as a user now to know if I should skip a video. I kind need to do the math if number of upvotes is good given the total number of views (below 0.5% is usually bad for a video with enough views). Their reason was legit, they wanted to protect YouTubers from obsessive people who target them for whatever reason. However, they can still downvote their videos, and even if it's not visible, it hurts them because the search ranking takes downvotes into account. Think about Amazon removing all negative reviews cause some of them are fake...

For subscriptions it's not a problem cause I trust the people I subscribe to. I don't care about their up/downvotes.
