A friend of mine is a director. He says he was just asked for some clips showing his past work. Then the studio hired him for an upcoming film.

What discipline? Software development? Product management? HR? Highly dependent on what you're directing.

In software development , could be any company , just want to know how interviews for a director are. The director role usually involves managing and setting direction for a group/department and working with them directly and via managers on the team.

Different companies level directors differently. A director at Google isn't the same as a director at Twitter. Directors also aren't necessarily managers. They can be individual contributors (like architects) as well. Expect questions about subject matter expertise, how to lead a team, and strategy.

Can't speak for development work but would probably talk about how you'd work with your cross-functional partners/teams to size/prioritize what projects to tackle and how you'd get buy-in from other Directors/VPs.

That'd be my advice for product roles.

When directing people, in what direction do you direct them?, also, do you do it directly, or through influence of your directs?
