Updated post: My wife just got offers from Splunk and Confluent. All are front-end SWE roles. Background: MS + 7.5 Yoe (small company in SJ) Current TC: 220k 1.Splunk P4, Bay Area Base: $195k Bonus: 15% RSU: $410k / 3 yrs Sign on: $35k TC: $360k without sign-on Pros: Stable, WLB is good Cons: No much upside potential 2. Confluent senior SWE, Bay Area Base: $200k Equity: 45k options/4years (strike price: ~$15, will be determined after joining) TC: $370k (assuming target price $30) Pros: much higher upside potential if going public Cons: like all startup companies, unclear if it'll ever go to public Questions: 1. What is the max equity we can get for Confluent senior role, with competing offer? How likely and when Confluent can go public? 2. For folks at Confluent, what is the current valuation? Recruiter quoted $10B, not sure if that's accurate. When Confluent will go to series F? 2. For folks at Confluent, how do you like working there? How is the equity refresh at Confluent? I heard you can only get refresh at 3rd/4th year or during promotion.
Is it $45k or 45k options?
45k options
I think the Confluent offer wins here. Splunk refreshes for P4 are decent (75 to 100 per year) but stock price might be stagnant. Confluent seems to have potential for significant upside and even if it isn’t significant it’ll still be better than Splunk.
Which team inside of Splunk is it for? Engineering quality and growth opportunities are highly team-dependent if that’s something your wife cares about, especially for frontend SWE
1. Try to fight for 50k options or more. 2. Sounds about right. Could be more given how other open core companies (Mongo, Elastic) are being valued by public markets. 3. Yeah, no equity refreshers till you get promoted or Year 3. Hence very important to negotiate upfront. Lot more upside potential at Confluent than at Splunk (whose stock has been not doing well, new leadership so that's a risky bet too)
What is senior sde at Confluent? What level is it?
Its surprising that 15$ being strike price which is the price investors paid at 4.5b valuation
yeah. That is true, I think the specific price will be decided after joining
What do you mean by specific price?
$4.5b valuation was almost a year ago now. Strike price has changed significantly since then. As with all pre-ipo options, strike price is generally determined after your start date (next board meeting, etc.)
Thanks, recruiter quoted latest price was ~$13 share, she expects it goes to $15 when my wife joins, not sure if it is reasonable
Seems like a reasonable estimate. In the long term (after exit, over 4 years), hopefully a couple dollar difference doesn’t matter too much
just curious, what did your wife end up taking?
How was the interview at confluent? Was it more towards DSA?
Which one did you choose?
dude your wife is killing it with the offers lol
Thanks, which offer are you referring to?
haven't you been posting a few of these polls now in the past couple of weeks? each time your wife seems to nab another impressive offer. unless I'm mixing you up with someone else on Blind who also has been making these polls on behalf of their wife.
