Applied for both McK (Asia) and Atlassian (Australia office) for senior swe position.

Got an offer from McK. Asked and been given extension to sign it so I signed it eventually. Then unexpectedly (because I didn't prepare and already signed the McK offer), my interview with Atlassian pass the 2nd round.

Now after some thoughts I feel like I would love to go with Atlassian instead of McK. But given the offer and uncertainty whether I am going to make it to the offer with Atlassian, I couldn't just pass on the McK offer.

-- EDIT --

Should I continue interviewing with Atlassian and withdraw from McK once I get the offer? I may not know if later I would cross paths with some ex McK and they heard about me from the recruiter.
Or should I forget about Atlassian and move on with McK? Maybe I can re-apply 1 year later but not sure if I will get lucky ever again

Also I heard with some companies their offer is valid up to 1 year. Is it true for Atlassian?
Anyone from Atlassian here?

Yoe: 6

McK offer
TC: equivalent to 120K USD

  • Just keep going. It’s at will employment. You are not a c suite where they lock you down w formal contract.

  • If you're getting an offer for SWE in Atlassian. Take that. Being in function that's central to a company is always better. You'll be treated more fairly - compensation and value of work wise

At least for Atlassian US, while there's no formal "offer good for" if you pass all the technical rounds and don't end up joining you should be able to get an expedited round of interviews at least or even just skip to team match.

No idea if the Australia folks handle it similarly.

I see. But is "I have already signed an offer with another company" a good reason to "skip" or "expedite" the interview when reapplying? Should I tell the recruiter that now or later when I get to the offer?

I'd finish the onsite before withdrawing, but I wouldn't push for an actual offer.

  • Even for australian standards your getting lowballed by McK in this market with 6 yoe and 120 usd tc - thats literally what some grads make in aus, you should keep interviewing, also any real company wont care if u renege on a signed offer, boomerang (renege offer then come back) is common in faangmula+

    • Why are u still interested in McK, its a management consulting firm not a tech company and they are lowballing u hard with your YOE. Renege if u get Atlassian offer or apply to zendesk, slack, doordash etc. aus teams. Where are u relocating from?

True, it is low for au standard, but quite high for vietnam. I bet McK Au is much higher than most Asia offices. I am just curious with consulting world, the reason why I applied initially

  • You're still on the 2nd round. By the time you get an offer from Atlassian, you will already be deep in the immigration process. That'd be a dick move tbh.

Which immigration? U mean onboarding with mck? I don't need relocation for mck. Actually atm they are still checking my work exp references. Not sure what's gonna happen if I fail the reference check
