Finished OA last Friday, recruiter reached out to me today (pretty fast, only 3 business days) saying I passed the OA and that they would like to schedule the onsite with me. When I applied for the role, I double checked that I'm looking only for SDE I roles and they said that was fine and they can make it work. Except now that I passed the OA, they're telling me that they only have SDE II roles but thinks it's fine since I have 3 YOE working (I only transitioned to SDE <1 year ago so only have 1YOE technically speaking), and said that I just need to prep system design questions. They reassured me that if I don't meet the bar for SDE II but my coding skills meet the bar for SDE I, I can get down-leveled or try applying for SDE I positions again, that the cooling period won't apply to SDE I positions.
Can people familiar with Amazon give some advice as to whether I should go forward with the SDE II interview? Is the recruiter telling the whole truth? I keep getting this feeling they're just trying to meet their quota and I might get fucked over. If I get down-leveled to SDE I and there are no SDE I roles open in that team, what happens then? Thanks
