Its generally accepted common sense not to verbally accept a verbal offer over the phone when presented (even if it surpasses expectations).

lets say you’ve done your research (blind, your network, the market, etc).

you have your target TC, your strategy laid out and you have your first counter already planned.

you dont have any counteroffers to use in negotiations.

how do you proceed?

Know someone who faked a Google offer and FB recruiter fell for it, didn't even check the offer letter and offered max pay for that level at FB.

If you are prepared to move out, few of the recruiters tend to blive you since they dont want to loose a candidate that esaily! Off course, it doesnt work all the time - but worth a shot if u r just giving an interview for fun and would move just for the money

      ^^This.

Don’t appear too eager, nor too aloof.

For a bluff to work you’ve got to sell it.

  • You always wait. You'll need that time buffer to collect other offers, which you can then use as leverage.
