possible career switch?

Hi, currently a health professional; is it still possible to venture into the Tech world? If so, how realistic is going thru a BootCamp for SWE now a days vs. going back to school etc.

It’s really up to you - if you’re committed and disciplined, absolutely possible to get into tech via boot camp, self taught, etc. Feel free to DM (I have walked this path)

Not a manager because VP discriminates against age pretty hard. Division is 10-12 engineers but we’re hiring for way more. I’m planning on applying for SWE role at FANG in a bit after I spend time practicing LC

I say division because we’re intending on having four separate teams once we hire everyone

  • If you are a RN, MD, PharmD - the best use of your experience will be to go in regulatory, med affairs, clinical affairs, & clinical development rather than being an SWE. These people also earn a ton of money in software companies that are targeting healthcare, pharma, biotech & med devices industry - applications such as IoT, data science, digital diagnostics, digital health, precision medicine etc. they require people with professional experience to tell them whether the application or system they are building will be compliant, useful and/or viable . Additionally there are roles that help them to talk to academic & heathcare institute partners. I guess a boot camp on digital transformation including SaaS & AI in medicine/healthcare can give you a primer to begin with - without getting into hardcore coding

  • I finished boot camp in Nov ‘20 and first SWE gig was 160k TC after 5months of searching (got offers earlier than that but didn’t settle)

Tech companies like Apple, Facebook, and Google are hiring, but the salary is pretty low compared to biotech or pharma. These tech companies only care about the engineers, and so you will not get the best offer. I tried interviewing with these companies in the past and was very disappointed by the salary they offered.
