Stop spreading these lies to the youth (advice for the younger ones)
There are two myths that are being slowly debunked as the world is changing IMO
1. Staying at a company for less than 2 years hurt your chances of getting a better gig somewhere else
2. Paying much higher tuition for an Ivy league vs a public/state school pays off or is worth it
During my 8yoe I've never noticed a difference between Stanford/Harvard graduates and state school colleagues, nor gave a shit about school names.
I've been part of the hiring process at FANG for 4 years, followed by Uber,, and never cared how long someone stayed at a previous company. I cared more about the interview answers and the person instead.
My advice:
1. If you've stayed at a place for a year and want to move on, just do it. Don't listen to these boomers asking "what is your biggest weakness".
2. If someone asks "what is your biggest weakness" in an interview, tell them to eat a bag of dicks. You don't want to work there.
3. Work experience matter much more than an expensive tuition where you pay $30k/year to learn ceramics as electives. Go for the cheap schools and get out debt free - don't be an idiot like me and take out loans for a fancy school. Or even better, go to a bootcamp and build up your work portfolio/experience - big opportunities will come if you're good.
Thanks for coming to my Ted talk.
