I’m currently interviewing with Roku for an exciting new role on their #marketing team. The reviews on Blind seem to be negative, but I know they’re likely not representative or statistically significant.

Can anyone clue me into the company culture and other intangibles?

You will need to find people from marketing for a real answer. It's very team dependent. Roku Blind is obsessed with hating one of the VPs that's unrelated to marketing. If you can't find anyone to ask then you'll need to evaluate your interview board since they are probably the people you will be working with. My team is pretty good, there are good teams in Roku. If you have more general questions about Roku, you can dm me

@Wkux88, thanks for the info. I guess it’s a good thing that there’s little redundancy in the team structure? Otherwise I think there could be restructuring/layoffs, which is not good for employees in general.

It can be good. Each person has their own value, you will feel like an expert in your own little domain and you will be treated as such. You get a lot of autonomy as well. Of course if you don't do your job, there is no one picking up the slack if you don't ask someone to help. In theory it could be bad if someone leaves the company without doing knowledge transfer, but I haven't seen that happen really

Some of the worst people I ever worked with ended up at Roku. YMMV

It seems the company doesn’t do formal performance reviews, which is different than most of companies. What could be the reasons for not doing it?

It sucks in fact HR recently started a campaign targeting new hires asking them to leave review on blind/glassdoor (I guess they ask new hires while they are still on honey moon)

Also despite blind average being already low (3.6) it seems still high given that they were some recent weird reviews giving 5 stars but criticizing the company 🤷‍♂️
