Hi, I've received 2 offers. Would be great to get some advice on which offer will be better for progression in Tech marketing.

Offer 1:
- Marketing Automation role at a non-faang tech company that has already IPO-ed
- Full time role
- Main job scope is to test and schedule emailers using Marketo but there won't be a need to get Marketo certified. (I already have experience in Marketo)
- TC: 95k base + 10% bonus + 23k RSUs that'll be vested for 4 yrs.

Offer 2:
- General marketing role at Meta
- 1 yr contract role with basic health insurance
- Main job scope includes coordinating events and digital marketing programs. Slightly more strategic role than offer 1.
- TC: 125k base, no RSU

I'm interested to get into the field of Marketing Operations (data integration and management) but the job scope in offer 1 seems too one dimensional. Was thinking if I accept offer 2, I can spend another year finding a more MOPs-related role after the contract ends. However, I don't think offer 2 will help contribute to finding a MOPs role in the future.

YOE: 7 yrs, but 1 yr in Tech.
Specialty is in paid ads. Not based in US.

As a contractor for Meta, your experience in resume will technically be counted as a Vendor for Meta coz Meta is not your employer but sure you can market it correctly in LinkedIn. If you’re thinking of it as a 1 year gig then sure. Sounds like you’ll be learning more in this role.

I guess my point was contractors generally get treated less then FTEs and that sometimes can make you little disingenuous.

I’m a former Adobe contractor and it’s true it takes a special type of resilience and confidence because very few if any folks will support or mentor you

Yup totally understand. I've reached out to a few existing contractors at Meta and they all had good experiences. Then again, it's really hard to gauge since the offer is for a different team.

As someone squarely in the marketing automation niche, you are correct about Offer 1 being one dimensional. It will be hard to get big shiny impact points in your resume doing plug and chug work, unless you’re committed to the idea of doing a lot of stretch project stuff (which you will have more ability for as an FTE)

Going with Meta makes more sense from a resume brand standpoint if you know you want to hop in ~1 year. Neither offer is really data integration and management, but at least Meta sets you up better for your next job search

The role at fb is more of events management and digital marketing, something which I have been doing for the past few years.

Currently, I'm actually more inclined to take up offer 1 despite it being 10% lower in TC, just because it focuses on marketing automation which I believe will help me get a marketing operations role down the road. However i might be wrong though! Not sure if I'll regret this choice!

That’s a good play if that’s your intention and as an fte you’ll have more flexibility to do different things

For the sake of your sanity go with the FTE role

Hi, would like to understand why? Even if the FTE role is one job level down?

Limited access, limited visibility, limited scope. Lucky if you get a good manager and coworkers.
