Junior Dev Destined for Failure
I’m a Junior Software Developer who currently works for a real estate company who is not a tech company. There is no DBA, Project Manager, Architect, Strategist, Designer, etc. We are full stack developers who wear several hats and this is severely unorganized. Prior to joining I was a PM and then attended a coding bootcamp for 4 months and this is my first development job.
I was never given any training and there is no mentorship at my company, when I was assured there would be when I was hired. I’m rarely given coding tasks and I find myself doing a lot of documentation and unrelated programming tasks. My coding skills are lacking and I try to maintain them with online classes and meet ups, but I feel as though I’ve lost so much of my skills from never coding at work that I almost need to go back to school.
What should I do in this situation? I’m worried about applying to other jobs because I don’t feel confident in my skill set. I’ve asked for reviews and coding projects at my current job and given only excuses.
Advice please.
