I do have the following offers, which one should I consider? I have 3+ YOE and I am not sure why I got only Level 3 in Google one. Also, I would expect more TC in Zurich.

Amazon:
- Title: SDE 2
- Base Salary: 68 000 GBP
- Signing Bonus: 22 000 GBP
- RSUs: 40
- Location: London (permanent residency after 5 years)

Google:
- Title: SRE (level 3)
- Base Salary: 119 000 CHF
- Yearly Bonus: 15%
- Stocks: 70 000 USD
- Location: Zurich (permanent residency after 10 years)

London. Zürich sucks as a city and the Swiss Germans are rude. London is the greatest city in the world.

Thanks a lot for your insight. That’s very helpful.

    • No worries. They’re both great cities, so you’re really choosing between two fantastic places!

  • Take Zurich. If you are a person that is keen towards traveling, hiking, nature, cleanliness, incredible food, and beautiful towns, then being in Central Europe is perfect.

Zurich may be a bit boring itself, the people (mostly northern Swiss) may be a bit arrogant, but you are a few hours train ride or flight away from thousands of incredible cities, different cultures, architecture, and some of the best food in the world.

Get yourself a modest place in Zurich, save some money, and use the rest on traveling around Europe and having the time of your life.

Actually, one of the things that worries me is that there are not a lot exit options and 10 years is too much. The permanent residency is something important to me.

    • Yes, expensive food, and London does have a greater variety in a smaller area, but I do think the quality of food is greater in Central Europe. You’re also very close to Italy... the best food your tongue will ever have the pleasure of tasting.

OP, you should ask yourself: are you willing to be patient and take the greater option in the long term? If I may ask, how old are you?
10 years is a long time, but the reward is much greater in the end. Your retirement in Switzerland or elsewhere in Europe will be much better than in the UK.

Zurich gives permanent residency after 5 years. You just need to pass a language test (German B1) and strictly speaking you're not guaranteed/entitled to get it (unlike on year 10), but people get it all the time.

But citizenship will take 10-12 years, whereas in UK you get it after 6.

Both offers are rather poor in my opinion (i.e. lower bounds of level bands). But why not try and live in both for several years?
