Getting job offer from Canada - currently working in US

Jan 4, 2021 30 Comments

Currently on H1B visa in US.

I applied to Canada through express entry but my score is less than 400. Lawyer said I can give IELTS again or get a job offer which would increase the score.

I am serious about moving to Canada but don’t know why would any company interview if I am not in Canada and don’t have a Canadian visa ? I am confident once I get an offer my score will increase but what can I do to break this cycle ?

Currently principal in Microsoft and looking for product jobs in Amazon in Canada. Anyone applied directly ? If yes through what channel ? I have an express entry profile. Should I apply from there ? What other options do I have ? Any tips will help.

  • Sorry to say this but you must be dumbest Principal in MS who couldn’t get even 400 points as score. Even if you don’t have masters and above you would still get easily 430+. IELTS is the easiest exam to give though a waste of time for a day.

How can u not have 400?

    1. Try moving internally. MS has an office in Vancouver
    2. Reach out to any Amazon Recruiter based in Toronto and ask them. They’d be happy to setup the interviews considering your level.

    • Is it possible to do that? Microsoft will allow that?

You’re at Microsoft, you should ask your HR. I’ve seen people move from India to US/Canada. So I’d assume it’s possible.

Find a MS team in Canada, ask them to file a work permit and then move.
Wfh situation will work in your favor as you can start working for that team instantly instead of waiting for 4-6 months to get the permit.
Use the job offer letter to get points for PR.
If you get the PR and you are still in US by that time, you can even chose to delay your move.
