Hi all, I am in the market for data science jobs and have recently received an offer. The recruiter said that my 4 years of consulting experience doesn’t count as actual experience and that my starting salary would be 85,000. This job is in Dallas, Texas. I have a PhD in Comp Sci from a renown university and a masters from another renown university. Is this fair? I’m in need of a job so I can’t really be a begger, but I feel like I’m being low balled. Attempts to negotiate failed. They told me 85k is all they would offer for a person with my background. Any thoughts?
What company?
Way too low especially for Dallas.
Too low
Keep looking, not worth
I live in Dallas, TX as a Data Analyst with 4 years experience and a masters. I make 92k TC.
what’s your masters in? more info about current role? i am similar, but based in Los Angeles thinking of relocating to Dallas
You can definitely get more, if you want. Are you applying nationwide or just TX?
I’m in Dallas with top ten CS Bachelor’s and make $120k TC with 1.5 YOE. They’re low balling you hard.
Are you at Statefarm?
Yep.
Insight Data Science Fellows, a fresh-PhD program I was just introduced to on here, advertises 100-140k for new data scientists. That was for NYC/SF so maybe 85 is equivalent in Dallas? I don't know much about the CoL there.
Does this range include stock?
They didn't say. If you look up Insight Data Science and look for their white paper, you'll see those figures. They didn't give a breakdown of how much is cash and how much is stock or anything like that.
Sounds like BS to me. If you still have time (I’m guessing you need sponsorship?), definitely look elsewhere.

Too little. I got the same with just masters and that too 7 years back. It was my second job overall and first in USA
