Hello!

Accepted a Program Manager L5 role at Amazon. Can anyone please give some advice on how to be successful in this role and/or some key things to keep in mind? Thank you!

Please refrain from using sarcasm/ condescending notes/ PIP related remarks.

I am trying to get serious advice on progressing in my career. Thank you :)

General advice. I am an SDE though

    1. Understand what exactly your team does in the first few weeks.
    2. Talk to your team members and let them know a bit about your past experience and ask them all the questions you have. You’ll kinda get to know who is better at work in the team. Develop a friendly relationship with them. Try not to bug them too much but don’t hesitate if you are stuck.
    3. I think PM and TPM are process oriented jobs. Understand those.
    4. If not assigned a mentor ask your manager about it. Mentors are crucial for your progress in the first few months.
    5. Uninstall blind as its purpose is served at this time 😃
    6. Have fun! Amazon is not as bad as what blind projects. I have been here for 4.5 yrs and I still love working here!
    7. Last one but important - Understand how to change teams. If you don’t like your current team switch to new one after 6 months.

Nothing wrong in switching earlier if you find a good team. Said 6 months as it takes a while for anyone to figure what’s happening in the current team. When I started I thought the team did shit as I wasn’t vocal or was afraid to take on more tasks. Coming from a small company it took me a while to figure what the team really did.
