I am looking for a PMM role where I can work with a smart and passionate team at a large tech co. My background is SaaS and mostly on the comms side. Any advice how to get taken seriously by PMM? I can't move in current company, already tired and was told I don't have enough PMM experience. So I'm hoping at a bigger company I can get that experience. Open to B2B or B2C. I have 12-16YOE depending what you count.

Why PMM? I want to be closer to sales and have an impact on revenue. I like product messaging, case studies, understanding customer pain points and how to position a product to serve their needs. Don't enjoy working on projects that seem irrelevant to or too far removed from core business success. While I don't have experience in pricing and packaging, I would like to learn.

Is it too late? Do I need to get an MBA?

Thanks in advance for any and all advice. #marketing #PMM #google #microsoft #netflix #meta #amazon

Get a PMM role at a C-list startup, get the titles and experience for two years, then start looking for a more reputable company

    • This. With the current market, you should be able to land something without and MBA. Build a portfolio that proves out your capabilities. Enlist help from PMMs to help review your portfolio and provide feedback for improvement.

Get an MBA from a top 25 program. Transition will happen in 2 years and you won’t have to take a demotion.

Would you expand more on what’s comms and your work experience? Have you been to brand side already, I feel being brand side helps make a transition a bit more easier so maybe go brand for a year and make that transition.

I also come from SaaS background but on the client solutions side. And am now transitioning to PMM role after a bit of time on the brand side.
