If you are only an expert in one language, you will be put on a team that uses that language.
However, generalists at Google are expected to be able to pick up any language relatively quickly. If you only know one language, I would strongly suspect you'd struggle with picking up more.
Just curious how will the new employee who knows only JavaScript cope when assigned to team working on projects using Ruby, C++ or C. Won’t the employee feel it difficult to come up to speed and be placed on PIP in failing to contribute?
