Hi guys - what's the feedback on working for Adroll? What do people think about the ad tech sector in general?
Problems are interesting because of scale. Ad industry itself is nauseating. The business side has a low talent bar.
Adtech is a commodity
I started in adtech. It was super demoralizing
What's demoralizing? Just curious because google and fb make most of their money from ads so seems like it "can" go right too
Like at a strict DSP or SSP company like the one I was at. Your whole goal is to show as many ads as possible and collect the maximum amount of user data. Simultaneously taking advantage of the user data we have collected without a ton of consent AND delivering a product no consumer wants. Plus I wouldn’t say that working on the ad platform at either google or fb is why people usually join. And both provide services where ads are a byproduct. Straight adtech companies are revenue driven only
I am curious too ... I have been in adtech analytics for sometime and seem to like it. All the major companies who have decent foot fall generally move towards adtech for extra $$$ , so curious why you guys think it's demoralizing?
Eng deals with large scale problems and is rewarding. Great strong team and eng leadership. Remote friendly. No clue about sales side.
Tech wise, lots of interesting scaling, ML problems to solve. The skills you learn in adtech is valuable for many other sectors. (Check out Criteo too, we have an office in Palo Alto)
