My wife works fully remote for a small company (>50 employees) based in San Francisco. We are not located in CA. At recruiting, the HR showed the benefits that says the company would pay 100% for employees outside of CA but when she requested it for our coming baby, the HR now said the benefit brochure about paid family leave has a typo and they are only giving 50% paid family leave. In addition, after calling the benefit line, the advisor also indicated that to be qualified for family leave, one needs to be in the company for longer than a year which is not mentioned anywhere in the benefit document.
Before we thought she could take short term disability for 6 weeks and possible the company 100% paid leave for 6 weeks. But now, it seems to us that the one year thing may kill both and She got really upset about this situation.
Any advise would be greatly appreciated?

Tough luck I guess, try to negotiate and get out of there. Shitty employer either way
Honestly if you can afford it short term, she should quit, focus on baby and once things settle down a bit, (regular nap schedule, etc), hopefully within 6-8 weeks, she can spend some time finding an employer that doesn't suck.
Sorry to hear this and congrats on the pending arrival to your family!
Depending on what state you live in, the state may also provide some sort of family leave? The doctor can also assess you as not fit to return to work and you can claim disability for a few months? Do whatever it takes to make sure you get some decent time off.
This country is a disgrace when it comes to post birth maternity and paternity leave. Expecting any new mother to go back to work a few weeks after giving birth is ridiculous.
But if the company said they would pay 100% in you offer and now saying typo is fucked up and that is surely not right
