I've joined zeta two months back as a SDE2 and I'm enjoying the work. New team, building things from scratch, lots of responsibility, good scope for SDE3.

Before Zeta, I was at Amazon for 3years, promoted from L4 to L5.

Current TC: 47L + Esops + Perf Bonus
Total YOE: 3.5years

Got an opportunity to interview at LinkedIn this week, for Software Engineer(IC2) and they're offering 60L+ TC to me (Base: 32L, Annual Bonus: 10/15%, Joining Bonus: 5L, Stocks: 18L/year)

Isn't LinkedIn IC2 a downlevel for me? Because I was an Amazon SDE2 as well. Considering LinkedIn IC3 promo would take 2+ years, is it a good offer? Should I switch?

    I got a similar offer from LinkedIn for 4+ YOE. Had to decline. Internally people are being promoted to SSE at 3yoe. Isn't worth the downlevel IMO.

    It's a fantastic offer for SWE, well in SSE range. SSE promotion can happen in a year if you are good, though for most people it takes 1.5-2 years.
    It's a shame they didn't give you SSE, but Li in India is extremely conservative about levelling external hires

    • Hiring bar is the same since the interview is standardized. But LinkedIn India has experience requirements for each level which are not present in US. The salary ranges are kept wide enough so that they can pay higher even while downleveling folks. The downside is that salary offered is more a factor of last drawn pay rather than interview performance. The salary ranges in US are narrower which means you don't get shafted even if you're coming from low TC.

    On same boat, offered 62L for LinkedIn.
    Planning to decline it as it’s Software Engineer role and levels.fyi shows Amazon SDE2 should map to Linkedin SSE.

  • Would leaving a company within 3 months look good on resume/peer relations? Factor this in as well.
    To be fair the TC difference is simply too high. I would also suggest to use this offer to negotiate at other places offering Sde2+ equivalent levels. Downleveling is definitely not ideal

      TC difference isn't high because LinkedIn TC has 5L joining bonus, which won't be there from 2nd year. Also, being top of IC2, hike during appraisal will be lower. Promo will take 2+ years again.

      At zeta, I've 15-30% performance bonus, which can push TC more than LinkedIn. Also, it'll be faster to get promoted in Zeta.
