AirBnB vs LinkedIn (Senior Software Engineer)

Apr 26, 2018 31 Comments

I have an offer from the two companies. Here are the details
LinkedIn (Sunnyvale) — Base: 175k, Stocks: 300k, Sign on: 75k (Senior)
AirBnB (SF) — Base: 167k, Stocks: 420k, Sign on: 15k (L4)

I have 5 yoe.

I will prefer work life balance over anything else. I have heard that LinkedIn doesn’t have a stock refresher policy. AirBnB on the other hand has some $90k stock refreshers.

Really appreciate any help here in making a decision.

Elements of Programming Interview is a great book. If you have time I would definitely recommend going through the same. I was asked one question from this book for my Google and LinkedIn interview.
Tagged questions help but not always. Good luck!

LinkedIn. We are far away from going public. Negotiate with linked in and join them.

negotiate with both of them. Airbnb should not be L4 with 5 yoe. try to get an L5 offer. that also means your refreshers will be larger and you can ask for a larger sign on.

commuting from Sunnyvale is going to suck but that really depends on what you can stomach. wlb at Airbnb is pretty good, it's really up to you to choose a good team and push back on deadlines. we also have a KillerQueen machine which gets a lot of play time. we have many people from LinkedIn here, from those who I've talked to, they enjoy it here more but that is obviously biased.

also we have a good vacation policy and provide 2k is Airbnb credits a year so you should make use of that and start doing some traveling.
