I have an interview lined up with an interesting team at Twitter for a higher level. I'm wondering what the engineering / company culture is like? The recent announcement around banned words seems aggressive and I'm wondering if that's reflective of a very politically charged working environment? #twitter

If you can stomach woke hysteria it is a nice place. Politics will be shoved down your throat day and night, but WLB and problem space are good

Twitter seems to want to assume the role of thought police. If you are not woke enough you will not last long there. Their corporate goal is cancel everyone

It's terrible by all means. Don't take it unless it's a 2 level bump.
If you want to leave Google, go to Facebook or a smaller company.

The culture depends a lot on the team and the leadership in that team. As far as senior leadership is concerned, they make an honest effort in rallying the org to serve a higher purpose than what it is perceived as today. But, in my humble opinion, I am not 100% confident if the middle management (EM and Directors in engineering) are in any position to inspire people to do their best work. This, of course, varies from team to team. But in my experience, it can be quite pathetic. Evaluate strongly if it is worth leaving Google (especially if you are in a good place). There are tons of great opportunities out there in the valley to explore.
