I've worked at Raytheon for a year and a half as a systems engineer in Matlab/c and would like to work in nyc.
I'm a recent grad in EE 2018.
Currently im applying to a bunch of SWE jobs in nyc but one's reaching out. Is it because of my EE degree or just something else in overlooking? Covid? Experience?
Thanks for reading, any tips or guidance on what to do would be much appreciated. πŸ˜€

Most large tech SWEs in NYC are liberal tards and sneer at "weapons maker" Raytheon. I would target finance firms (hedgefunds, banks, etc...) because they are more levelheaded and actually look for expertise in C / C++ systems. With the fall of SF, NYC has risen in popularity with respect to software jobs, and tech is generally more competitive there (smaller NYC offices). Covid doesn't help this. Oh also SWEs are pretty stuck up and think over-engineering javascript libraries makes them gods and they don't know what real engineering looks like (EE). Do some projects on github to prove you are a normal techfuck (even just squashing bugs in pandas or numpy open source repo or somthing). Good luck.

I did it with a ME degree, definitely doable OP. If self taught people with no degree can do it, no reason you can't (but w covid is tough now).

Do you envision Bloomberg continuing to hire a lot in Q1/Q2 2021? Waiting for my bonus at this point.

It was actually really nice, not a lot of quick timelines so less stress and the 9/80s are something not to miss on

I’m a CS major and a SWE and I generally look upon EE majors more positively than CS/CE majors.... just saying πŸ€·β€β™‚οΈ
