I recnelty will have the opportunity to join Zulily. I heard the news Zulily laid off numbers of employees from merchandizing department. I’m little worried and just wonder what about marketing? is there a high turnover rate in marketing team? Do most employees at Zulily quit themselves or was told to leave? Thanks! would be very appreciated of any info!
It seems like people are voluntarily leaving all across the company. Level 1 up to Execs.
Damn. What happened to it? Because of the low compensation ? Or the ship is sinking fast
The stocks have dropped 65% in the last year, so compensation (stocks) people have been given is way down. It might be a good time to come in since the stocks are slated to rebound ~25% over the next year and getting stock bonuses at the low would be smart. Other than that and the new execs ramping up, Zulily has a lot of positives.
I’m no longer at Zulily as of end of December. I was potentially going to look at the marketing analyst role that might still be hiring but I was told by 2 friends in vendor ops that marketing is a crazy team. Also I’ve heard that people from all levels have been leaving. Despite the above, if you find a good team then overall it can be a pretty good place to learn and grow while still being fairly chill place to work. I’ve heard that Zulily is where you go to start and then later end your career if you come back.
High turnover is rampant through marketing as well as others. Lots of people from merchandising transferred over to marketing, and many have since left after the layovers. Even previous to the layovers they completely dissolved a marketing leaders position and re-orged their team. They have very little cohesion and the decline in sales is blamed on marketing tactic and strategy just as much as it is on Merch. Get in get experience get over to Amazon or somewhere else. If it’s a stepping stone in your career. Don’t sidestep to zulily there is better out there.
Very good to know. Thanks for sharing your insights on the questions! It makes sense, it’s a good place to learn the experience in the early stage
The layoffs only affected merch and studio to my knowledge. Marketing was safe
Thanks for the info!

Best LCOL or MCOL city?
I heard marketing had a lot of people leave and they are trying to hire
Were they told to leave or they left for other opportunities?
Your asking a non marketing person who just overheard a single lunch conversation between marketing people. With that massive disclaimer out of the way, they said people are leaving and they are trying to hire new people. I dont have much else to offer, sorry. I hope someone who actually works in marketing replies here.
