I work as a Digital marketing manager in a company that just launched its new product which misses a lot of market fit or competencies needed to compete in a global market and they keep pushing on driving revenue without spending a penny on branding and they even want to breakeven in less than 6 months while they donn even know the market and refuse any suggestions to develop the product in the most simplest affordable ways, I have been there for 4 months and they keep micromanage and interfere with my team and even make me sign the monthly plans and reports so they can judge me later based on my expectations, I do my best to build a growth funnel a'd numbers are getting better but u can't drive money that way and they told me if I didn't get money during this month they will shut down the project, I donn like to be a failure or called as one cause they have no patience or vision. What should I do??
QUIT! No job is worth the hair pulling and becoming bald due to stress.
Resign immediately
Someone with a marketing background can reply to this and correct me. But my understanding is that when you’re two months in, your have no brand worth anything, at best you have a product to sell and your advertising and marketing is about helping people understand your product’s differentiation. I’d say bail out because it seems like nobody there has a clue.
They are engineers and they donn get the idea of branding or building a brand name, but they keep resisting also they think that all marketers are over promising and under delivering or they all are scammers, and they have a very aggressive attitude and trust issues, they keep saying "you're the expert" but when I offer a solution they resist it, the whole thing is a joke actually cause they spent 3 years to get the product recognized in the B2B sector and they want it now to boom in the B2c in just 2 months!!
What company ...?
I was with a startup for 6 months. Same type of shit. They wanted huge results and didn't want to spend a penny. They kept promising to pay me but it was like pulling teeth to get any payment and the payments I did receive were way less than promised. I quit after 4 months cause that shit ain't worth it.
What company? Well, look, if you own the functionality and especially if you’re the only non product hire in the trenches with the guys who built the thing, you’ve gotta manage expectations. First. Second, Are you their branding person or is your job acquisition? I’m 8yoe digital marketer (cmo at the moment) in saas with experience moving an acq model from B2B to C. Dm if you’d like to chat. Perhaps I can help you identify some opportunities with what you’ve already got running
