Can anyone explain why Microsoft would even want Tik Tok? It doesn't complement any of their main businesses. With Facebook launching Reels does the case for Microsoft buying Tik Tok actually evaporate?

  • Probably because they’ll get it for an absolute bargain and use it to bolster the Bing Ads business

MSFT owns LinkedIn (a social platform for professionals) so expanding to a more recreational social media platform is a good move.

    • You'd have to argue buying LinkedIn was a good move too then.

I don't see acquiring TikTok as growing the company as a whole. Xbox is in games and is a new vertical but integrates with Windows for gaming for example. If you have an Xbox, you can play some games you bought on Windows too.

TikTok user won't use any other MS product. It's a completely new vertical and unless MS doubles down and really wants to be a player in the social media market, it's going to be like a law office buying a tire shop. That tire shop can be profitable but doesn't grow the law office as a whole.

      Just my two cents.
