I got an offer from AMD at SMTS position in hardware role. I am at IC4 level here. Is it worth switching for similar TC for a higher title level ? It would take me another 3-4 years to get to IC5 at Nvidia. TC: 270k YOE: 6 #hardware #interview #semiconductor #offer

Stay at Nvidia don’t trade wlb and stock growth potential
AMD has higher stock growth potential than NVIDIA.
Also wlb depends on team. I haven’t faced any issues with wlb
Switch to AMD and come back to Nvidia?
Planning the same.
What do you mean ?
I don’t think so. Your rewards will end up being less in the long run. Maybe just talk to your manager and get them to counter?
Its around the same TC. What can they counter with ? I was thinking more on lines of getting higher title and better wlb. Its hard to ask for IC5 at 6 YOE. I can be at PMTS level at AMD within 3 years while equivalent IC6 at Nvidia seems like long time.
For 6 YOE, SMTS offer sounds great.. whats singon they are offering?
45k signon
Yes, I have 5yoe + 1 year of internship experience and asked for SMTS, but they offered MTS
Even they match your 1st year TC, their refresh won’t keep up what you make at NV. How much is AMD’s refresh do you know?
I heard they’re giving good bonuses like 150% of target even though refreshers are lower than Nvidia. We don’t have bonus here.
Your bonus will be prorated this year if you join AMD.
What is yearly refresh at nvidia? You will cry when you see RSU refresh. PMTS gets 60K for 3 years as an example.on a good year!
I got 90k here. But there is 19% bonus as well right for SMTS ? PMTS would be higher.
Yep, 19% for SMTS which is pretty good tbh.

SMTS at AMD might not be equivalent to IC5 at NVIDIA
IC6 is principal level right ? I guess IC5 should be senior staff. Pay might be different but I meant in terms of title.
It is difficult to map titles between different companies. TC, on the other hand, is easier to gauge. I know several data points where AMD fellow goes to NVIDIA as principal and vice versa.

OP, include the bonus as well. Also, try for more RSU. This year bonus might be more than 100% of target which is nice. Heard it’s more than last years 133%
