Received an offer from AMD and would like to make a decision by early next week. Any comments or inputs are much appreciated :) Level: MTS (HW engineering) Location: Austin Base: 150k Annual Bonus: 15% RSUs: 60k/3yrs Sign on: 15k Relocation Bonus: 30k Current TC: 240k (Bay Area) YoE: MS + 5yrs Also, the role at AMD is much better and has great long term upside compared to my current role. The work culture at current company s#cks big time. ~190k in Austin is equivalent to ~240k in Bay? TIA! #hardware #amd #nvidia #apple #semiconductor
Nice offer. Congrats 👏 Not sure about how 190k in Austin compares to 240k in the bay.
Thanks!
See if you can get more stocks
Thanks, will check. Does the base look alright? I am not sure about Austin HW scene.
Base looks ok for 5 yoe. May be push it for 155-160. >160k won’t be possible afaik even at Apple.
Money is important but you spend more time with your coworkers than family. You could not pay me to work in a miserable environment. As a recruiter, you would think I would say go for the money - but no, go for the right fit and culture every time.
Yes, I have done that mistake before. Joined a company (known for bad culture) for a higher TC and suffered badly. Thanks for your suggestion :)
Is that company apple?🤣
Congrats.. Did you try to tell your current TC to recruiter and negotiated? Also did you look around in Bay area or wanted to move to Austin
I was only looking for opportunities at Apple/NVIDIA/AMD/Google/FB. I did interview at Apple (Bay area) and still waiting for their decision. Its been 2 weeks but did not hear anything so thinking its not positive.
Apple only gets back to you if you made it. Interviewed 3 times :(
Which is your current company?
check DM.
Thats a great offer for AMD in Austin for 5 yoe!
Thank you!
If they offer SMTS, is it still great? Do they have a range for MTS and SMTS?
Wow that's quite a good offer. This is why long time employees are getting demoralized as new hires are getting more.
Well that's saddening to hear. How are the refreshers usually? I am sure the long time AMD employees must have made $$$ due to stock appreciation :)
Lol very few long timers made any money at AMD .. as there was no ESPP and refreshers were literally a joke .. I was a long timer there ..gave up .. most of the good HW folks have already left.
I think you should negotiate for more rsu. Like 100k. Rest looks good. 190k in Austin is more like 270k in bay. A 40% difference.
Thats good to know. Thanks. Will try for more RSUs
I doubt it is 40 percent difference... Considering only 10 percent additional state tax.... And housing difference of 15k per year...for a single family...
Thats a good offer… You will probably be paying about 35-40k more in taxes in Bayarea with the 240k. Thats makes your take home almost the same between the two locations. And Austin is definitely still cheaper than bay area.
Thanks, appreciate the inputs. I am also thinking the net income would be the same and possibly I would end up saving little more $$ in Austin.
Why do bay area pay 40k more on taxes considering only state tax is 10 percent for such salary ?? Appreciate the response
Is this the first offer before negotiation? How long did it take for them to get back to you after interviews?
This is the first offer as I already did make my expectations clear to recruiter. Took 5 days for them to get back after interviews.
Thanks OP! What expectations did you tell recruiter?
