I have to fucking admit it, the world has changed. It used to be online vs offline were 2 different reality. Now they are linked. There's no going back. What's protecting you from Cancel Culture and the Mob? Nothing... Until now. I'm seriously contemplating the idea of having two 'real entities' now - private vs public. They have different name, birthday, employer, education, etc. Both identities are applied offline and online. The private identity is only given to those who legally need to know. Your employer, your bank, people you trust. By default everyone else get the public identity. For example, neighbors, meetup groups, randoms, doordash, Amazon, etc. And I mean you do this offline as well. That means besides work colleagues and close friends, others who know you know a different 'john doe' you. If anyone is wondering I'm taking cues from some BDSM people I hang out with they usually have a scene identity vs real identity. That way if someone is trying to gut you, there is some protection. Did you say something offensive at a meetup event, didn't tip enough on doordash, neighbor doesn't like your fuck face, etc.... It will be a barrier for them to find your true identity. Maybe even create a shadow profile for legit social media (like LinkedIn) so they think that's you and won't go finding your real identity. What do you guys think? Obviously the best strategy is abstinence (don't have a social media presence beyond necessities like LinkedIn). But in this day and age... I'm starting to think more extreme measures are needed. #tech #sjw #cancel #cancelculture
A wise man once said nothing at all. This begs the question of why run your mouth? So many people want to have the last word that they’ll put their entire reputation on the line just to be vocal about a fringe topic. The vast majority of problems can be solved simply by not participating. I see idiotic stuff all the time that I would love to comment on, but instead I just downvote (if that’s an option) or ignore it and move on with my life. As far as neighbors go, if you keep to yourself most people will respect that. Maybe you wave at the neighbors when you’re getting home, but nothing is forcing you to invite them into your house. As far as tipping goes, as long as you leave something, most people don’t get offended. It’s hard to be sympathetic if someone is “calling you out” for leaving $15 on a $100 meal. Could you have left a couple more bucks? Maybe. But it’s not required. As far as saying offensive things goes, just don’t do it. If you stay away from sexual comments or comments about religion, politics, or race... it’s hard to offend a vast swath of unknown people. As you make new friends, you’ll learn about their likes and dislikes, and then you can have a more heartfelt conversation about your views, in the privacy of your own environment.
I agree with this view..This is the stoicism in the 21st century. I participated in a few such discussions and at the end of those I was the one affected mentally. As you mentioned that tendency to be the one to have the last word is tempting. The real stoicism is to control yourself in these moments. Ofcourse if a constructive discussion is going on and you feel you can contribute and the discussion is not toxic sure do it.
This was a commonly held view in 30s Germany. Why rock the boat?
LinkedIn is not a necessity. You’ve already lost.
How do you maintain your public identity with a site like Amazon (won’t your payment/credit card info tie you to your private identity?)
You can always enter a different name. Only card number, expiration date, CVV code and billing address need to match. You can add a john doe as an authorized user on your card and most of the time it's the same number as yours.
I feel sorry for people like OP, but admittedly, their "struggle" is fucking hilarious. Love my country that Nazis are morbidly afraid of outing themselves and resorting to manufacturing multiple personalities to avoid detection. This is why America will always be #1. 🇺🇸
I personally have no problem shutting up and letting people like you profess your love for defunding the police and socialism. By all means, shout your opinions like these from the mountaintops. It only helps people like me politically
Actually cancel culture is Nazism v2. How ironic. It's stiffling free speech and thought. You know back in Nazi germany people were afraid to speak up or go against the party. There was the gestapo watching their every move. Much like SJW woke police mob.
Or, just be less racist all the time. Just a thought.
Unfortunately intent, motive, facts and due process means nothing to the mob. If you're not woke with us, you're against us. If people chose to abstain over BLM that should be their choice. It doesn't mean they are racist. Unfortunately the mob now deals in absolutes.
I don't think I've ever made any publicly visible display as "woke" and I've not had any trouble.
U guise: Should I make a secret identity to explain how the Earth is flat and the world is run by the nefarious Dutch? I'm worried it'll hurt my career if everyone thinks I'm a crackpot.
poor white showflake is sad and upset that he can't be openly racist anymore...boo hoo hoo "but my freedom of speech"
Go read the constitution. Freedom of speech includes 'unpleasant stuff' like burning the American flag. Freedom ain't free snowflake. We have liberties in this country, and at the same time these liberties can lead to discomfort. It's the price of freedom. As I said freedom ain't free. But now the mob want to destroy our freedom and American values. So yeah as much as I do not like racist people, their speech needs to be protected. Once you finish these racist people off what next? Microaggression people? People who look at you in the wrong way? People who don't say please and thank you? Anyone who is not a liberal?
Freedom lol. Freedom to be openly racist is not in constitution. Snowflake cry baby
I like it. I’ve been thinking about anonymizing my public accounts so I can actually share my real opinions without fear of blow back.
