Looking for feedback specific to total comp (TC) and career next steps. I see insane TC on this app - I assume bc I’m lacking: PgM yoe, grad engineer/MBA, or SW/tech experience.

6YoE at AMZN
-5 yoe launch mgr operations
- 1yr L5 Ops PgM (non tech) in the same tech heavy org

Current Comp
-80k salary
-45k stock
TC has always been ~125k with stock appreciation

Q1) What should I expect the TC breakdown if I get TT for OLR next month? (FYI - New 2022 L6 PgM base pay low/midpoint/max is 115k/136k/160k with new max TC of 198k.

Q2) More importantly:
What TC should I expect with the expected Q2 promo to L6 PgM? Is there any opportunity to negotiate if I’m unhappy with it?

Q3) Assuming the Q2 promotion, what’s the fastest path to >$300k TC? I love amazon, and can handle working even more hours/stress or switching companies if I can “jump”. Any specific company or team recommendations with my background?

Btw, I’m happy to help connect AMZN resources if any need guidance or referrals. Let’s pay it forward!

    OP
    Thx to both for answers.

How do I become attractive for a PM role? And, is there any recruiting resistance/barriers if I were to leave and come back after 1-3 years? (The potential upside being the so-called “external hire TC” boost)?

Get a PM mentor. If you are in a ops heavy role, try to move to a lateral pgm role that’s lighter on ops and more on strategy.

And no, you are fine to come back as long as you don’t burn bridges (leave while in focus etc.). But remember, it’s easier to move to a product role within Amazon than externally.

“2022 L6 PgM base pay low/midpoint/max is 115k/136k/160k with new max TC of 198k.”

Wow. And this is AFTER the comp adjustments that got so much coverage? I understand non-tech L6 is underpaid but 198k max TC for L6 in a place like Seattle feels low. 🤔

To answer your question I think the fastest path to 300K is switching to PM/PM-T track.

Long post with a lot of unnecessary details.

Q1 - lower end is probably 125k and upper end is probably but higher than what you’ve listed
Q2 - no negotiations with Promo TC.
Q3 - move to a product role right after promo and work your way through higher TC.

  • Are this Base salary for Washington? Or it’s for all USA?
